Hello world!

I decided to start this blog primarily because I've been writing extended rants on Facebook and, well, I thought I'd start to spare people who don't want to have to deal with my Facebook posts and collect them somewhere a bit more coherent.

So that's the why, but let's clear up the what. What is this? Shortly put, it's a central place to collect my missives, think pieces, op-eds, rants or whatever else you'd like to call them on a variety of subjects. I make no promises about the content, beyond that I hope to provide thoughtful and possibly entertaining posts, and that the posts will be a genuine reflection of who I am. I'm also doing this to get a bit of practice with web design, so you may see the occasional post that's just an experiment or two.

I have also created an images section, where I'll post images that either I've taken or I found on the net somewhere and like. They may be accompanied by a short commentary, or (more likely) will just be posted as they are. Either way, I hope there's something there you like as well.

That said, I will emphasize here (and probably again and again in other posts) that these thoughts are my own and do not reflect the opinions or positions of my employer - the City of Toronto - Toronto City Council and/or the Mayor of Toronto. For full disclosure, I am both restricted in what I can say and directly responsible for my posts under the City of Toronto's Public Service By-law. As such, I will not be posting on any issues relating to the City of Toronto, City Council, the Mayor of Toronto or other issues that may be specifically connected to the City. (This is not due to a lack of interest, but rather the importance of maintaining the public's confidence that the public service is politically neutral and providing advice to law makers based on the best evidence and analysis available.)

Disclaimers written, I look forward to posting on this blog on a semi-regular basis. To be honest, posts will happen as they strike me (and I have time to post them.) That means posts may be multiple times per day (especially as I'm recovering from surgery), or may have a few weeks between posts. I will leave comments on for now, but comments will be turned off if they prove just to be sources of spam or trolling.

So welcome. I hope you find something interesting here, but regardless, thanks for visiting.

Cheers,

Brendan
